The Mountain Factor outdoor clothing shop evolved out of connections to other very early entries into the world of ecommerce in the late 1990’s. However, The Mountain Factor possessed the edge that it was operated by hard-core mountaineers and knew the equipment and the industry inside out. Likewise, Thule Media was founded by outdoor people with good knowledge of the mountains and experience in actually building search engines. The brief was therefore simple that being to dominate Google in the UK for the best in outdoor equipment and the UK for the best in outdoor equipment and clothing.
Improvement in conversion rates by email marketing.
An ecommerce site was developed using robust JShop technology and linked directly to EPOS. In addition, our own Thule CMS was implemented allowing product reviews and video content to be published with relative ease to support various marketing ideas including SEO.
Over several years we also constantly tested conversion rates via email marketing allowing the store to optimise prices such that products would sell without heavily discounting too much to the point that the brand would throttle supply and as is common in many markets.
Over a 5 year period the site came to dominate rankings in Google for the surveying side of the business across the whole of the North West. Likewise it dominated rankings for the estate agency and lettings side of the business in Preston and punches well above its weight further afield.
In total, the traffic to the website increased steadily and by 3000% from its original level.
